Top 5 Electronic Wallet (e-Wallet) in the Philippines

The COVID-19 pandemic forced our country to expedite the assimilation of electronic commerce or e-Commerce. All government institutions and instrumentalities are being required to implement online transactions and online payment to help with social and physical distancing so as to prevent the spread of the virus.

Electronic wallets or e-Wallets is now at the forefront of the e-Commerce transaction, allowing for contactless payment, and online payments that you could do anytime and anywhere.

Among the e-Wallets available are GCash, Paymaya, Grabpay, Paypal and Coins.Ph. I currently have all of them on my mobile device so that I can make an honest assessment based on my experience using their mobile app.

1. GCash - GCash is an e-Wallet supported by Globe Telecoms, In my opinion GCash is the best electronic wallet in the Philippines. It provides multiple easy cash-in methods some of which you can avail for free.

My favorite cash-in method is the BPI online link, which allows me to transfer funds from my BPI Account to my GCash account without any service charge. As of the moment you can also cash-in with Land Bank via Instapay, as of this writing Instapay has waived its service charge for fund transfer.

With GCash you can save, invest, pay bills, buy loads, transfer funds, and purchase online using your mobile device.

I've shared PHP 70 worth of freebies for you to try it out: Click here

2. Paymaya - Paymaya is an e-Wallet powered by Smart, like in GCash, I also linked my BPI account to avail of no service charge cash-in method. A prominent feature of Paymaya is their cashback and rebate promo.

Their rebate promo often gives a 10% rebate on transactions made thru the app. Once I bought a Mercury drug using Paymaya, and I was able to get back a Php 100.00 rebate from my Php 1,000.00 purchase.

They also have a cash back transaction wherein if you are selected the total amount you paid for a transaction shall be returned to you. I bought a Php 600.00 worth of hardware tools at DIY and in a matter of minutes I was rewarded with Php 600.00 cash back prize.

With Paymaya you can pay bills, buy loads, transfer funds and purchase online using your mobile device.

3. Grabpay - Grabpay is not a dedicated e-Wallet but rather a part of a ride-hailing app Grab. In the Grab App you can top-in Cash to be used for payment of Grab Car or Grab Food.

Grab Car rates are much lower if you use Grab Pay as your method of payment as against paying in cash.

4. Paypal - Paypal is an international e-Wallet recognized by most countries, it is also the most recognized e-Wallet for the payout of online surveys and online transactions. With Paypal you can accept payments or  payouts in foreign currency.

5. Coins.Ph - Coins.Ph is a relatively new e-Wallet for me, among the other e-Wallet, Coins.ph is the only one who accepts cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple.

Whatever e-Wallet you chose, keep in mind that you still need to safeguard your MPIN, Password and One-Time Pin (OTP). A legitimate customer shall not ask for your MPIN, Password or OTP's nor they would personal information on calls they have initiated, Staysafe.
